Elijah McCoy, the son of Rev. John McCoy was born April 5, 1837 and dep arted this life Feb. 12, 1909 at the age of 71 years, 10 months and sev en days.
He was united in marriage with Zerelda Tuley, Dec 24, 1854. To this un ion was born four children, two sons, John W. and George F. and two dau ghters, Nancy Emmons and Viola Phillips, all of whom together with his w ife are still living.
Brother McCoy having professed Christianity, united with the Methodist c hurch of member for about 60 years. His life has been that of a true C hristian character, presenting a Christ like example to all those whom h e came in contact with.
He has four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, beside a host of ot her realatives and friends to mourn his departure, but we weep not as t hose who have no hope, for we feel that our loss is his eternal gain, a nd that he is now basking in the sunshine of God's love and beckoning h is loved ones to meet him around the blessed throne of God, as his last w ords were "Remember that all is well with me."
The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Dougherty of Gentryville.
