Perry County, Indiana 1870 census records give Elisha as 29, which woul d make him born in 1841, also on his muster card it states that he is 2 0 and the year was 1861. This is why the twins are not in the home in t he 1840 census of Spencer County, Indiana. Elisha was promoted to Corporal in May 1865. He served with the 49th V olunteer of Indiana and his muster out date was 13 Sept 1865 in Louisvi lle, Kentucky. There are differences in the descriptions of Elisha and Elijah on their m uster cards for the Civil War Records. Documentation included. Elisha was wounded while in service of his county in the Civil War. He s uffered until his death with a "rupture" or hernia, that in those days t he only treatment that was available was the wearing of a "truss", whic h often was tremendously more painfulthan the hernia itself . Documen tation of the problems that he experienced with this ailment are docume nted in his war pension record, On file. The home that Elisha and Nancy built when they arrived in Nashville sto od on the north side of the L and I tracks and was a dirt floor log str ucture. This structure stood until the 1930 's when Arthur Lamar (son) t ore it down and built his home on theproperty. In his pension file, it states that Elisha died in church. There are a lso some discrepancies in the birthdates for the children of Elisha and N ancy, census records give one date and the pension record of Elisha giv es another. Both dates have been included where the discrepancies exis t. |
