Charles made his home in Nashville, Illinois in a tree. This according t o Helen Smith Lamar and Alma (Ollie) Lamar Becker. Ollie remembered th at when she was young, her father used to take "Uncle Charlie some food a nd liquor out to the tree, or areawhere he lived. She stated that she w ould never get out of the car because she was afraid of Charlie. Altho ugh neither Charles and Alfred were violent, they both suffered halluci nations, reason given by the court was Religious Fanaticism. Documents for the insanity are signed by his mother, Nancy Lynch Lamar.
