On 1 June 1689, Thomas Cocke Sr of the parish and county of Henrico gives to his son James Cocke of the same parish and county, for "love & affection" two tracts of land containing a total of 559 acres in Henrico County on the North side of the James River. One tract, containing 263 acres, is bounded by Harris Porter East and is "part of a patent" of 901 acres of land "granted to Lt. Col. Richard Cocke, father of ye aforesaid Thomas Cocke Sr, and Mr. John Beauchamp, late of the County of Henrico, dec'd, as by ye said patent dated ye 21 June 1664...which said land was likewise by ye said Beauchamp, after ye death of ye said Lt. Col. Richard Cocke, acknowledged & confirmed to his three sons, whereof ye said Thomas Cocke being...invested of ye said two hundred & sixty three acres being his proportionable part or portion of ye said nine hundred & one acres...as by division made". The other tract, containing 296 acres "is ye whole contents of a tract or dividend of land formerly granted unto one Thomas Wells but was deserted by him and "since granted to the said Thomas Cocke Sr as by patent dated ye 20th day of April 1687". Further, "Thomas Cocke Sr doth reserve to himself, for & during the term of his natural life, all liberty & privilege of getting timber...on ye above conveyed land".
