In the name of God, Amen. I, Henry Gonterman, of Hart County, Kentucky being infirmed and weak in bodily strength, but of sound mind and reflecting on the uncertainty of Life and the certainty of Death, believe this to be a duty I owe my family. So to dispose of my effects as suits my inclinations and after my decease to save my executor the trouble that sometimes occurs in cases of that nature. First, I give to my son, John K. Gonterman, and to my daughter, Nancy Gonterman, to be equally divided between them the whole amount of the first payment that I received from my brother, John Gonterman’s estate, willed to me at his death, amounting in all to eight hundred and one dollars. This I give to them as they are the only children that have stayed with me and taken care of me and their mother and are also to provide for me during my lifetime and at my death. The whole proceeds of this first eight hundred and one dollars is to be left for my two children, John K. Gonterman and Nancy Gonterman. The residue of my property consisting of all that may fall to me on the division of my brother’s estate (John Gonterman) in right of my self and all and every species of property possessed by me at my decease whether here described or not, I leave to be equally divided between all my children, those being five in number Silas Gonterman, Lydia Self, Margaret Grimes, Nancy Gonterman, John K. Gonterman. Furthermore it is my will and desire that the part of my estate that may fall to my two daughters Lydia Self and Margaret Grimes shall be given exclusively to them (my daughters) and to their heirs to have and control as they may think best. And lastly if at my decease I should owe any just debts I do enjoin it on my executors to see that they are promptly and punctually paid out of any money that may be coming to me on any property that I may be possessed of if this case should require it, except that the money before described and given to my son and daughter, John K. Gonterman and Nancy Gonterman and I do hereby constitute and appoint Jesse Craddock and George C. Johncy my executors to act without security and I do declare this to be my will reserving to my self the power to alter it by codicil or otherwise if at any time hereafter I should think proper so to do.
