He was buried after 7 Sep 1941 in Masonic Cemetery, Nashville, Washington, Illinois.¹¹ He was a coal miner, Peabody Coal Company.⁵⁵ He was a Traveling salesman, Ehrman Manufacturing Company in Terre Haute, Vigo, Indiana. There seems to be a problem in the exact date in which James Hammond was born. In the pension record signed by his father, Elisha, it states 1882 and in the census it gives another date. I would tend to believe the pension record first, but if this is the case then James would be 14 years old when his first son, Arthur, was born. Not likely.
In Washington County, Illinois, birth records, James is listed as a coal miner on the record of James and Eulah's eldest son, Arthur, the date was 1896. He changed jobs sometime after this and became a travelling salesman.
