First Generation

1. John TULEY¹ was born in 1783.¹ It has been speculated that John was born in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia. No one has been able to provide me any definitive evidence. He emigrated in 1828 from , Grayson, Kentucky.² He died before 12 May 1834.¹ He had his estate probated on 12 May 1834 in , Spencer, Indiana.¹ He is in Glenn Tuley's Database as GTDatabase #43.

John TULEY and Rachel STEPHENS signed a marriage contract on 1 Oct 1808 in , Mercer, Kentucky.³ They were married on 24 Oct 1808 in , Mercer, Kentucky.³ The marriage was performed by the Rev. Thomas Kyle. Rachel STEPHENS was born between 1785 and 1787 in , Montgomery, North Carolina. Based upon data from the 1830 Census, we know Rachel was born after 1785 (being less than 45 in 1830). It can only be speculated that if there were no consent found in the marriage records, that the bride (Rachel) was of age (meaning at least 21) at the time of her marriage. That would put her birth year at 1787 or before, which may help in matching her to parents, but unfortunately, doesn't tell you who those parents are. - Virginia Rhoades

Note: The source that said she was born in Montgomery County, North Carolina, has not provided any supporting evidence and has closed his E-Mail address, so I now consider the Montgomery County birth location a possibility not a fact.
