This, and most other web sites, have particular items [facts] in them that are not copyrightable, even though the whole is copyrightable.
Facts are not copyrightable. So you are not violating any copyright laws by just copying facts a web site.
Indeed, most of the facts posted on this web site were given to me by others for the purpose of sharing. Except for some data from my Grandmother's notes, when I first started my database, I have tried to note the source of the data in foot notes for several reasons:
I want to give credit where credit is due.
I don't want to give the impression that work I did not do is mine.
If someone has an argument about a fact, then I can easily point them to the source and play referee rather than be part of an argument that I may not care about.
Pictures on this site may be copyrighted by others, depending on a number of factors and details in the law that I do not want to go into here. Due to technicalities of the law, most picture on this site are not copyrighted, however, they were all given to me for the purpose of sharing with other relatives. Please do not republish them without giving the contributors the courtesy of asking them people them for permission.
Text that is an original work is copyrightable. So, if you republish my work without my permission, then you will be in violation of the copyright laws. If you quote [fair use of a portion] don't forget to cite your source. Not only is citing your source, proper courtesy and etiquette, it prevents you from committing plagiarism.
