OBITUARY - appearing Friday, January 11, 1924
Born in Bartholomew County about where the fair grounds is located, one o f 19 children of Beverly B. and Unis Tooley, originally from Kentucky. He also lived in the Petersville area. He was a former County Treasurer. He died Tuesday in East Columbus, age 69. Funeral service was Friday at the East Columbus Methodist Church where Ku Klux Klan services were conducted. Burial was at Garland Brook. He first married a Miss Childs of Columbus, second married Lena Gaddis of Columbus, and third married Jennie Voyles* who died last August. Surviving are 2 children, Mrs. Ruth Hanlon who lives in the Tooley home and Frank Tooley of East Columbus; 2 sisters, Mrs. Millie Talley of Knox County and Mrs. Mary Boone of Indianapolis; 5 brothers, Walter of Hope, Joe of East Columbus, Aron and William of Columbus and Wesley of St. Louis, Missouri. A brother George died a week ago at Uniontown, Indiana. A son Arthur died in the Philippines while in the service. 5 grandchildren also survive.
* This is Boyle not Voyles. Jennie (or Jane) was his third wife. They had no children together. Jennie had never been married before. They were married August 6, 1902, and lived in the Petersville area. Jennie was pretty old at the time they married.
