Samuel Lamar was a member of the Little Pigeon Baptist Church in 1823. He is in the church minutes as early as 1818. Elijah Lamar, son of Samuel, was a member along with the Lincoln's. Land records of Spencer County state that Samuel was a taxpayer by 1815. Spencer County Historical Society Bulletin states Samuel Lamar was in Huff Township in as early as 1812. In 1825, Benjamin and Samuel Lamar formed the Bethlehem Regular Baptist Church. The first services were held in Samuel's home on the northwest side of Newtonville. |
