Mark, the father of the child, was married to Isabella Tryon on Januray 4, 1874. Rhoda's husband, William, had been previously married. In 1880 the only child living in the home in Effingham, Atchison County, Kansas, was Rhoda's son, Mark Tuley, age 8, listed as the stepson of William Tucker.
