Notes
|
By sources listed hereafter Martha Wombrey married 1) THOMAS LAWRENCE of Milford, New Haven and had daughter MARTHA LAWRENCE; m. 2) JOHN CHAPMAN and had daughters MARY CHAPMAN and ELIZABETH CHAPMAN. Married 3) FRANCIS BROWN by then of Stamford (but WATCH OUT for there were 2 of the name at Stamford with different wives). The correct Francis Brown moved to Rye, Westchester, New York. Frances and Martha had 4 children: JOSEPH BROWN, SARAH BROWN, REBECCA BROWN and MERCY BROWN. After Martha's death, Francis married 3) Judith Budd (daughter of John Budd) who was first married to John Ogden. Again be careful because there was more than one John Ogden. By the will of Francis Brown of Stamford, Connecticut and Rye, Westchester, New York written in 1685/6 the relationships are carefully presented. This is cited by Donald Jacobus Lines as soon cited. Lines stated that Francis Brown of Stamford and his wife Mrs. Martha Chapman, widow first of Thomas Lawrence of Milford and 2) widow of John Chapman of Stamford had four children: Joseph, Rebecca, Sarah and Mercy Brown. By his first wife, name unknown, Francis had daughter Mary Brown. Francis married 3). Judith Budd Ogden and removed with her to Rye, New York. There were no children of this marriage See Donald Lines Jacobus, "History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield," v. 1, 105-106. Please read notes on her husband Francis Brown and please do not confuse him with several others name Francis Brown, including a different one of his name at New Haven who had a different wife; or with Francis of Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts. These various people named Francis Brown all have different wives, children and death dates but they have been previously merged into a combined mess that had to be separated |
