Birth: 1695
Will: 1 APR 1729 St. Mary's Co. Maryland
Note:
Nathaniel Cooper made a will dated 1 April 1729:
In the name of God Amen. I, Nathaniel Cooper of St. Mary's county, planter, finding myself sick and weak of body but of sound or perfect mind and memory, thanks be to almighty God for so inestimable a blessing, and considering the uncertainty of this transitory life in which I now life, I do - - - to settle and dispose of all my temporal benefits which has pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me. In order thereto I do make my last will and testament in manner and form following:

First, and principally, I give my soul to almighty God that gave it (to) me, firmly and constantly believing that through the meritorious death and passion of my blessed savior Jesus Christ, I shall receive full pardon and remission of all my sins and my body I bequesath to the earth, from whence it came, to be decently buried according to the direction of my executrix hereafter specified and named.

Secondly, I give and bequeath to my beloved son, Henry Cooper, a parcel of land called "Part of Scotland" and lying upon Clements Bay containing a hundred and fifty one acres or thereabouts after the death of my beloved wife, Henrietta Cooper.

Thirdly, I do hereby make, constitute and appoint my loving wife, Henrietta Cooper, to be my sole executrix. After all my just debts being paid, I give unto my loving wife all my goods, chattels, debts, cattle, hogs and all my personal estate and one Negro man called Peter and after the death of my loving wife, my will is that my son, Henry Cooper, shall have for his own proper use the above said Negroe man called Peter.

Fourthly, if my loving wife should die before my son come(s) to the age of twenty one, my will is that Peter Jarboe shall have the charge of him, if his wife is alive, until he comes to the age of eighteen.

As witness my hand and seal this first day of April, One Thousand and Seven Hundred and Twenty-Nine.

NATHANIEL (X) COOPER (mark)
F. William Cooper writes: "Nathaniel Jr. predeceased his father. He was obviously rather young at the time of his death and left his widow, Henrietta, and an only son, Henry. His widow remarried later, but it is interesting to note that her name was the origin of the Henry's in the family. Nathaniel's son inherited "Part of Scotland" as shown in his will. By inventory, the personal goods of Nathaniel Jr were valued at slightly over 176 pounds sterling. "Part of Scotland" sits on Clements Bay as noted in his will. There were a number of tracts called "Scotland" and one belonged to the father of Ann Griffin, who married Mark Cooper, Nathaniel's brother. I suspect it more likely to be a piece of that tract "Part of Scotland" consisted of 151 acres."
"It is also interesting that Nathaniel Jr. had been the executor of the estate of a man named Spinke (sp?).
Included in his obligations was the raising of the Spinke children (orphans). And note that Peter Jarboe, in whose care Henry Cooper was placed to age 18, was paid some 67 pounds sterling for the continued care of the Spinke orphans."
